Working Groups

The MICC Working Groups are peer-moderated discussion and collaboration groups that meet regularly on Zoom. Each Working Group focuses on a specific issue related to the creation, presentation, and touring of contemporary circus.

PRESENTER GROUPS (SEE CONDITIONS)

This is a collaboration-oriented group made up of Canadian presenters committed to increasing the touring and presentation of contemporary circus in Canada.

Membership Prerequisite: Canadian presenters only.

This is a collaboration-oriented group made up of US presenters committed to increasing the touring and presentation of contemporary circus in the United States.
 
Membership Prerequisite: US presenters only.

Sonia Kozlova Clark (Artpark)

This is a collaboration-oriented group made up of North American presenters committed to increasing the touring and presentation of contemporary circus in North American outdoor venues/platforms and at summer festivals.

Membership Prerequisite: North American presenters only.

This is an international collaboration-oriented group aimed to pool institutional resources to spark and support the creation of new concept-driven contemporary circus work by artists who are discovering and developing their authorial voices in circus. 

Membership Prerequisite: Members must be able to dedicate resources (financial, space, mentorship, and/or other in-kind) to support selected projects.

GLOBAL CIRCUS WORKING GROUP

The Global Circus Working Group connect and collaborate with circus leaders in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the US, supporting sector advancement efforts and supporting the visibility of artists, presenters, and other organizations from these regions in Québec and North America.

This group aims to increase the international visibility of contemporary circus artists and companies from Africa.

This group aims to increase awareness within and beyond Latin America of Latin American circus artists, companies, and organizations who are ready to collaborate and tour internationally.

Michiko Tanaka (Setouchi Circus Factory)

This group aims to increase connections between circus actors in Australia and circus actors in Asia; increase awareness within and beyond Asia, Australia, and Oceania of contemporary circus artist, companies, and projects in these regions.

 

SECTOR ADVANCEMENT WORKING GROUP

The Sector Advancement Working Group brings together circus leaders committed to moving the sector forward through lenses such as producing and touring, small and medium-sized companies, climate, inclusion, and representation

This group aims to connect and sustain creative producers in contemporary circus.

This is a support-oriented group aimed to offer the leadership of small and medium-sized contemporary circus companies a structured laboratory for learning through action.

Membership Prerequisite: Small and medium-sized circus companies only.

With this group, contemporary circus artists, companies, presenters, and professionals from around the world discuss ways to improve our discipline’s relationship to inclusion and representation at all levels.

With this group, contemporary circus artists, companies, presenters, and professionals from around the world discuss ways to improve our discipline’s relationship to the environment at all levels, from both a practical and artistic standpoint.
